but as soon as i made my way out the door
the man said, “not so fast!”

he said whatever he had to say
he turned back around and i walked away
i shook my head and wondered why
he didn’t need to come back to apologize
but he came back soon, and then he said
“i’m gonna take this fist to bust your head”
i looked at him with stars in my eyes
and i knew right then that i wasn’t alive
