the introduction to the grindhouse…it’s 4 in the morning, martin is on tv. one of my favorite episodes with dragonfly jones is playing in one ear…a few ladies on the couch smoking out a bong in the other. firefall’s “dolphin’s lullaby is the sample of origin i used for this record. i wanted to set a euphoric background for the build up, then 8 bars into it a sample of chance the rapper’s “f-ck u tahm bout” comes in with “waking up in grind mode and sleeping in the grindhouse.” this refers to the studio i work and live out of, the grindhouse, a place that chance has worked in as well. the drums are a mix of lo-fi and 808 kicks and snares all programmed in to the maschine. blending elements of cl-ssic boom bap and modern trap music…welcome to the grindhouse
