told us his brother had a tumour in his brain

my heart sunk, i couldn’t believe it
my grandad had cancer, luckily he beat it
so i know what he must’ve been going through
but words couldn’t say it, so i sat in solitude

and i never messaged him again

on whatsapp every day, “last messaged” ben
i couldn’t bear to message him, and then i forgot
then as covid hit, i couldn’t even remember
so i made naive comments and then i found out when i remembered

his brother passed away
and f*cking h*ll, i felt god*awful
i messaged him paying respects, it was hardly an article
i said the basics, but what more could i say?
he was barely an adult, and he was taken away
i can’t look at him the same, because i can’t imagine anyway

for him to ever be himself again

in messages, he’s never been the same
he’s criticising himself, hating his abilities
ben was a biker, now i question, “is he?”
i wish i had a string of words to make him feel better
because when his brother was ill, where was i? never

so this is my tribute, may he rest in piece
i never knew him too well, but here’s what i knew, see:

he was an incredible person, intelligent as well
as being a loving brother, i mean flipping h*ll
he was an amazing person, i wish i could’ve spoken to him more
so i’ve made this song to tell the world all about this, ah*
and before i forget again, i promise never again
to abandon any of my friends in their time of struggle so immense
was distracted by my own sh*t, i never even thought to text
