now some kids are big and some kids are skinny
some can hit home runs and some can’t hit any
whenever it came time for choosing teams
the other kids would always sing

i hear ’em say:

your arms are so skinny

well, what can i say? the story’s true
athletics was not my strong suit in school
during class, i’d always finish my work
at outside time, i’d trip and fall in the dirt

and the kids would say:
“chicken wings, oh, chicken wings
you always fall”, or so it seemed
and i was kind of short and a little bit skinny
for outside fun time, i didn’t have any

and sometimes i’d cry because my feelings were hurt
or i was just tired of looking up from the dirt
i tried the weightlifting course from the comic book
’til i dropped the dumbbell on my dumb foot
but then the teacher said, “let me see
on friday, we’re gonna to have a spelling bee”
now i was glad, i know i could spell
when we chose spelling teams, i heard the kids yell:

“chicken wings, yes, chicken wings
won’t you please be on our team?
you’re the best speller we’ve ever seen
we sure need you on our team”

we’re all individuals, we’re not the same
some kids are good at playing baseball games
other kids are good at winning spelling bees
when i played outside, the kids all sang to me:

“chicken wings, you’re the spelling bee king
the captain of our spelling bee team
you’ve out*spelled everyone at school
spelling bee king, we think you’re cool”
