our troubles with rationalising the world is peculiarly paralleled by our desire to express feeling. whether it be through literature, music, architecture or any other medium, there is always great reward in expressing yourself efficiently
fragments of pottery, gravestones and weaponry
languages, music and tales
legend, mythology, ancient astronomy
culture and art still remains
all throughout history we’ve always seemed to be
sharing much more than just thoughts
although they survive and the meaning still thrives
one must wonder, why did they bother at all?
context and history, draped in complexity
shrouded in unresolved mist
meaning is lost and our eyes fill with dust
in the moments we doubt and resist
all that we say can be said in some ways
while the message can easily be foiled
why should we hesitate, corner and separate
when everything seems to be joined?
even if it’s dull, even if you can’t see the point of the plan
people should always understand
even just a word, even just an email to your boss
do it well, and let your message excel
because a story hits much harder if told well
layout of pages, and all types and faces
colour, contrast and size
line weights, construction, in good composition
is like a sweetness, a treat to the eyes
your tone of voice and your facial expression
your pr*nunciation of words
all play a part when you open your heart
and put pen to the paper you chose
structure, dichotomy, good legibility
substance and harmony is key (seriously?)
rhythm and feeling, a soaring melody
writing with a spirit that’s free
choices are dignified and voices are amplified
when all of these concepts of clarity apply
deployed individually, then joined in the synergy
that hides in our writing and rhyme
when designing a building of its time
in singing and talking and painting and drawing
it’s magical, so now let it rise
take your time
speak your mind
i know i took mine
even if it’s low
even if you’re screaming as high as you can
people should always understand
even just a sketch, even if you’re painting a portrait of love lost in orbit
do it well, and let your message excel
