the pastor had a frank talk with leonardo, he hoped that if he could get him to write the music about what he needed to do, that he would end up feeling what he needed to feel. so he chose next week’s sermon to be about repentance. leonardo was a very much needed hand at the church worship ministry. mark didn’t want to make him feel like he wasn’t, but he needed to get him to change a little bit before a scandal happened. these church things can escalate to quite serious events
“next service’s topic of the sermon is going to be repentance leonardo. i’ll be reading 2 chronicles 14 that says “if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and turn from their wicked ways, then i’ll be faithful and just to forgive their transgressions and heal the earth.” jesus was punished on that cross because of our sin, but he’s our ally, our healer. when we sin, we have to recognize that christ is bearing the burden for the bad things we do. we become new creatures when we give up our old ways to follow him. so for this service i want you to write a worship song that’s about repentance. coming clean of your sin and leaving it behind. can you do that?”
the pastor was being very calm about it. people make mistakes, it’s normal
“yes pastor repentance of course. forgive me heavenly father for my wicked sins.” he said putting his hands together and looking upwards
he went home and began composing a new piece. this time full of repentance. “the music has to shed tears of repentance through the melodies. it has to cry! sad chords like minors, an erratic sway with on and off synchopation, a diminished doom, followed by a blast of cheerful grat-tude and praise. after all, we were forgiven!”
to him the music was important. he had to repent on the music
so he wrote this:

with heartfelt piano melodies and escalations of all sorts you’d expect from a tearjerker. he practiced and practiced that week and then took it to the worship practice. they absolutely loved it. they thought “wow leonardo really repented! he messed up and he knows that.”
“you see the lord forgives tommy… he’s a changed man.” brianna was trying hard to convince herself, but after that song it wouldn’t be hard
“wow i guess i really was looking at it the wrong way. people change and jesus can heal their life if they repent. i guess he is a christ follower after all.” tommy was now convinced that leonardo was a true christian that messed up sometimes, but got right with god
on the day of service they decorated the place again and made a big show out of it. leonardo performed his song and the audience bawled in tears. repentful hearts, crying, saying “we’re sorry lord! we sinned! forgive us father.”
pastor mark walked up to the pulpit and said:
“i can feel the stirring of the lord here tonight. who else feeling the stirring of the lord here tonight?”
“amen!”
“who wants to change their wicked ways?”
“amen!”
“who wants to be healed tonight? it’s a promise of the lord. change your ways, i’ll heal you the lord says. can i get an amen?”
“amen!”
“can i get a hallelujah?”
“hallelujah!”
“well then hallelujah! who needs healing tonight? you mam in the back, with the hair. whats your name and what do you need prayer for?”
“bernice. i need healing cause my right shoulder is feeling heavy.”
“bernice your right shoulder is healed in the name of jesus! who else needs prayer tonight? you sir in the front what’s your name and what do you want the lord to do in your life?”
“derek peters. i need healing for my leg, it’s been hurting for a while now i limp everywhere i go.”
“you believe that the lord can heal you derek peters?”
“yes sir i do.”
“be healed by the name of jesus! amen? amen everybody? if you want to be healed make sure you come to the next service and bring a friend.”
clark approached leonardo after the service was done
“wow! that song man! you really feel that? that was a real experience with god right?” he asked him
“clark my friend. god doesn’t exist.” leonardo said
“what do you mean he doesn’t exist? didn’t you see the people getting healed? i thought you meant what you said on the song…”
he was really upset. he thought leonardo was going to be his disciple, but that was a long ways from happening
“it’s theater clark! the repentance is in the music, i don’t regret a single thing i’ve done.”
