do you know who you are?

you are not what everyone else says you are
you are not that person who doesn’t care about life
you are the one that chooses to press on in spite of the strife
you are not the one who hurts others out of some sick, twisted pleasure
but you are the one that encourages others
even when they don’t want to hear it
and you do so in good measure
when others doubt your ability
you’re the one that steps up to the plate
and knocks what they say you couldn’t achieve right out of the park
and then some

you are not the one that gives up on holding on to hope
while some others you know would rather hold on to dope
just because their scope is limited
even when doubt and fear wanted to have their way with you
you let faith prevail
and when you put it on the scale
it weighed more than doubt and fear ever could
as faith in the almighty god pushed you along
you knew it wouldn’t be long
until you would step into purpose
so stop telling yourself that you’re worthless
do you know who you are?
you are the one whom god is shaping and molding for such a time as this
and of course, not every day is going to be bliss
to believe the contrary would make you naïve and you know this
but you know he is working in you and through you to bless those around you
because they need to experience what god has put inside of you
so you see there is a great work for you to do
and with time you do not need to screw
because after that sleepover
she will give you a rude awakening
one that will shake you to your very core
and she will look you square in the eyes
and let you know that you are certainly
not ready for a meeting with eternity
but again i ask you, do you know who you are?
it’s for a reason you have come this far
and it’s not to flaunt your money or your fancy car
or to show off those things you do not even own… at all
doing that will cause you to fall
you are the one who was made for this time
this place that you’re in right now
there is purpose inside of you
you can’t afford to not see it
concerning everything god already called you to be
you need to be it
you do not need to be one who is too busy staring back at the past
that you cannot even take at least one glance at the future
while you are in your present
“what if,” and “i could have… and would have… and should have”
don’t mean diddly squat now
take a look at the future you could have
it can be a bright one if you put your heart and mind to it
i promise you the more you look towards the future
you’ll never want to look at your dark past again
as the future will have you truly captivated
a person who looks up, not down
a person who walks with integrity
one who has reversed that ugly frown
that’s who you are
there is so much potential in you
i wish that you could see it
so many people besides me have told you so
why is it so hard for you to believe it?
forget what a hater has to say
and listen to what those who truly love you have to say
don’t go on day by day
miserable, feeling sorry for yourself
while your goals, aspirations, and dreams are wasting away on the shelf
that is not what you are supposed to be doing
don’t you know who you are?
you are part of that chosen generation, royal priesthood
a holy nation, you are a peculiar person;
that you should shew forth the praises of him
who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light
you are blessed and not cursed
you are above and not beneath
so why are you out there at night trying to creep?
that’s not who you are!
you are blessed and highly favored by the god
who carefully made you for his glory
he knew you before you knew you
shoot god knew you even before your mother knew you
so why are you walking around here confused?
the thoughts god thinks towards you
are thoughts of peace and not of evil to give you an expected end
so don’t front. don’t pretend
don’t settle for less than the best that god called you to have
when you settle for less, then that my friend is just plain sad
it’s time for you to wait on the lord
and have your strength renewed
it’s high time that you mount up with wings as an eagle
it’s time for you to run and not be weary
it’s time for you to walk and not faint
it’s that positive life portrait that it’s time for you to paint
it might get hard sometimes, but that’s life
but walk away from a challenge? that’s not what you do
yea that’s right
so fight on, press on, move on
do whatever you have to do
just don’t give up on realizing who you are!
