is it something that i did to change our day*to*day?
for a week, instead of sleeping, i just laid awake
i didn’t know we weren’t moving cause i made mistakes
i wasn’t old enough to understand the kind of weight
that was stressing out my mom, the stuff that’s on her plate
so we left the sea behind to move beside a lake
but for my mom, it was a move she knew she had to make

and that’s exactly what we did
finding ourselves in the 630, bloomingdale, illinois
you know, the little town where someone’s like
“oh yeah, i know a spot”
and everyone’s like
“is it the blue mcdonalds?”
and they’re like
“… no.”
now, thinking about the story of my hometown
i mean, i think chicago is the most natural starting*off point
i spent my most formative years here
my nearest and dearest friends are all from here
just thinking about the people that i’ve met and the things that i’ve learned
chicago is the place that really taught me what it was like to start growing as a person
and i’ll never forget that
i’ve always been super proud to hail from chicago
i tell everyone, you know, “i’m a chicago kid”
now, did chicago teach me pride? of course not
the pride that i grew up with is a special kind of pride that you can really only learn from one place
