seven sacraments established and founded by christ
but what’s a sacrament, and how’s it apply to my life?
is it just a ritual, a symbol that’s meaningful?
cultural rule invented by religious people?
no! it’s so much more than all the above
it’s an outer sign or inner grace, a gift from above
supernatural love in tangible form
a mystical, spiritual miracle to help any sinner transform
divine signs that supply what they signify
channels of god’s life sanctifyin’ minds from the inside
moments in time where heaven and earth meet
combined matter with spirit, you’re seein’ the unseen
there’s three that give us the grace we need to be holy
baptism, confirmation, and communion, or we
call that last one the eucharist, such a mystery
literally means “givin’ thanks”, how we adore thee!
two heal us when we’re ill, usually spiritually
confession and anointing of the sick, sometimes physically
two are directed to the salvation of others
holy orders and marriage for priests and soon*to*be father’s and mother’s

the sacraments are actions christ did on earth
he continues to act through, that’s why he gave us his church
god doesn’t have to act through material things
but he chose to, it’s fitting, since we’re material beings
god didn’t have to spit in mud to make the blind see
he didn’t have to lay his hands to heal leprosy
but constantly chose for heavenly realities to flow through
his creation, and so you obey him with these
in baptism the holy spirit gives you new life
washes your soul of all sin, check out john 3:5
infuses your soul with righteousness that comes from on high
adopted child of god, a new creation that’s in christ
in confirmation your strengthened, matured to be bold
the eucharist is christ’s body, blood, divinity, and soul!
jesus said, “take and eat, this is my body for you”
the lamb of god, the bread from heaven, now our spiritual food
when you stumble into sin after baptism
jesus mercy picks you up again in confession
but you need to be truly sorry, no pretendin’
god knows, so no repentance? no absolution
read about anointing of the sick in james 5:14*16
helps you when you might die
sometimes your healed physically, or it’s time to go
in that case the sacrament helps to prepare your soul
holy orders turns a man into a deacon or priest
to serve the church and the world “in persona christi”
in marriage man and wife are joined and given strength to be true
to raise a family full of love when they say, “i do”

now know this too, don’t get confused
god can do whatever he wants to do
he can flow through what he chose to
or use other means to get close to you
he isn’t bound by the sacraments, it’s true
he can act outside of them, in the end it’s up to him
his discretion, but that’s the exception, not the rule
in case of emergency, not the normal route
let’s say you hear the gospel and accept the truth
desire baptism but die before you get the chance to
god will still save you
he knows your heart, and he works apart from water if he has to
he can even save those who don’t know him explicitly
if they seek the truth and do god’s will implicitly
but know though it’s possible, it’s no guarantee
so we go spread the gospel obeyin’ god’s decree
to finish, you need faith, hope, and love
turn from your sin, allow his grace to flood
your heart, your soul, your mind
it’s all through christ
who paid the price
the way, truth, and life
