the boy flips the coffee table in front of him for some level of protection, diving behind it and beside dude 2, who has since stopped moving. lying there, reflections of newly departed life reflected in his large, brown, shimmering eyes, the boy decides he’s witnessed enough premature death first-hand lately
gunshots continue to fill the room. the boy curls up behind the “safety” of the table, which splinters as shots ping and ricochet off of it. the din grows louder, and the boy covers his ears and closes his eyes. something about this takes him back to childhood
as the boom of gunshots continues to grow, he sees in his mind the people from his life. somehow, he seems to know what they’re doing in the moment. sasha from the party is p-ssed out on a floor somewhere, half-naked. vanessa is grocery shopping. nyla is curled up on a couch with that dude, happy. fam and sw-nk get blazed in a car. none of them knows or cares the boy is about to die. even if they knew, would they care?
the sound of gunshots keeps growing and growing until they become an indistinguishable roar, the noise and the chaos rushing over him; and just as it couldn’t possibly get any louder…
int mansion bedroom, day
the boy is sprawled out on his bed. splitting headache. the spider back in its corner. the gunshots are gone. in fact, the only sound are birds from the courtyard outside
he lay there, one eye open. was that a dream?
there’s a knock at the window. it’s some girl he’s never seen before
