as just like the flu
or claim jobkeeper money

and when cases for spiraling out of your reach

our grandchildren ask us

did you rip off your mask hoping you’d get arrested
did you have a sore throat, but refuse to get tested
or play afl in a quarantine hub
then sneak out for cababs at a gold coast strip club
and we’ve all been *rs*holes
at times in our lives
it’s the human condition
it’s how we survive
and of course we deny it
what else can we do?
but time will reveal it—
the *rs*hole was you

our grandchildren ask us
did you put yourself first
and to h*ll with community
saying, let people die
let’s achieve herd immunity
or, if you had questions
about how we were led
did you ask them to help people out
or, instead
did you look at the horror
unfolding that year
and think, what a great chance
to advance my career
