lirik lagu the hype – shayne larcher
[intro]
yes 1981 marked the beginning of a new era
now i bring to you words of wisdom inspired by the man himself
r.i.p. stuart hall
[verse 1]
i used to wonder if it’s all worth my while
til mr. hall’s wisdom made me live a clearer lifestyle
& i could feel it as a child growin’ up
with intentions stemmin’ from ideas, curiously enough
racist ideologies, just never make sense
those talks of generality don’t mean that i can hop a fence
i don’t believe the hype or follow rough racists
cause the media constructs for us of what race is
make sure you never take it all for granted
cause the things we see on tv, change the way we view our planet
how we love & how we hate, is made from discourses of p-ssings
overt extremists tried regulate the balance
now through hidden ideas just to avoid all of the panic
in our brain is where they’re planeted, tell me do you understand
it’s inferential, how you could be the victim of a thought
or unquestioned -ssumptions, that’ll hate you from the start
like that
[hook] x2
ideologies, products of the media
formulate unconsciously & make us who we are
ideologies, active through society
don’t believe the hype of today. it’s a shame
[verse 2]
as long as the news keeps talkin
and the people keep watching
the views keep topping and the people start mocking
black folks robbing
muslims, bombing
the whole worlds sobbing
but one who stays on top is
fox, or the cable news network
these white eye thoughts cl-ssify to who’s better
so neglect superiority
cuz all this talk, comes from old british stories, b
history, seeds
from slave-figures workin on the plantations
to the degradation of our country’s first nation
colonizing races tainted new social relations
in the very subtle language of our own nature
when the sun dims down, and the days gone
use this track as food for thought to marinate on
cuz if you thinkin that i got the whole game wrong
think about the fallen innocent, trayvon
r.i.p
[hook] x2
ideologies, products of the media
formulate unconsciously & make us who we are
ideologies, active through society
don’t believe the hype of today. it’s a shame
[verse 3]
& it ain’t only with the politics, i remember as a smaller wit
i’d dedicate my sat-rdays to watching fox kids
cartoon network, caught up with adventures
disney movies, always finding hidden treasures
like the jetsons, one thing i’d never take in
it’s a future world with black eradication
but as a kid, i’d see it all as entertainment
never thinking of the world i’d have my face in
zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-day
there goes my social freedom drifting away
as guns, nba, n fried chicken replaces
as the stereotypes linked to the colour of my face
it’s a shame
so keep it all in perspective
don’t be a mammy, caught up in these ideologies
anti-essentialism’s where you’ll progress
exhibit, the best, nevertheless
