it didn’t work out as expected or planned, broke and ran, and it wasn’t the cannon, or even the sight of dead. lack of commitment stole the resolve of this disposition. wrote its end to k!ll its promise. it has gone against everything we worked for against the predictions of our greatest idealists. we fell apart. the communication lines were cut and miscalculations based on our preconceptions were more deadly than the firе that cut our ranks to pieces. from this, therе is no recovery, no second chance, only white flags. and blackm, raised against the august sky. this set the standard, and we wept. purple hearts and bleeding hands. the spirit of ’62. this wasn’t the first time, and we should have known better. it spoke volumes about commitment and execution. we were always afraid of failure, and this misplaced propensity for temperance insured our ultimate defeat. we carried on for years what should have taken days. a refusal to yield to the good sense of camaraderie, to accept our differences and stay friends. we forced our union and ended our relationship up to our necks in dogged idealism. this metaphor speaks to us across the centuries, teaches us in hindsight the lesson of you and me
