lirik lagu born day – timothy welbeck

“the two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” (unknown)

i woke up early on my born day
you can say it was written i would adorn the stage
the essence of adolescence crept into my presence
when nas dropped the illest message
you can say, i got lost in the tapes
this was around the time you thought a laptop was a miniskirt
when delores said the culture had not a bit of any worth
around when tipper only heard rap a lot’s offending words
i differed from the critics the minute i that did observe
the brilliance of what these girls and boys did
building a culture so poignant it gave a voice to the voiceless
the science of the amps k!lled the silence of the lambs
they took to street corners and made the livest of jams
they thundered their doctrine over drums and b-ss knocking
doctoring music players into musical instruments
jockeying looped layers into beautiful increments
contorting torsos in unusual pivoting
it more so was a dutiful re-ssembling
of fragmented lives over grooves and bending riffs
that is why we fight to keep the youth remembering
they made a beautiful culture when viewed as degenerates
but now people act as if the culture doesn’t matter
so it’s loaded up with the evil of living backwards
those who were our guests feast at the scene of the disaster
where the carc-ss is the vultures gather
and folks are remiss if they look over those factors
if this continues, it could be the close of the chapter
now we have meaningless discussions
y’all be on some, “yuh, yeah; yeah, yeah yuh” and
(laughs)
so while the children are stumbling, hungering, and wondering
the songs we come with are nothing but mumbling
and that’s just something that shouldn’t be beloved
so i’m with the black intelligentsia with the facts i present with love
trying to educate to what you lack comprehension of
i stand with the black barristers who attack barriers
that hold us back for being black in america
i stand with the mic controllers
spazzing over donuts
j knew the deal (ah), i just give a taste of what have showed us
i’m relaying the sayings from what the greats told us
digging through crates, cds and tapes to console us
trying to screen these greedy thieves and snakes who control us
giving insights from, the word of life to hold us
i was fishing for men when you thought the internet was a fishing tool
i was ridiculed because i was into school and not bending rules
and wouldn’t choose the insolent bull that my friends would do
and won respect of the women, the men, and the youth who
waited with bated breath just to listen to
someone to fish p-ss the word that simply isn’t truth
and perhaps secure the music for all of its intended use
rather than the trending fools whose net gain is offending you
many do, fall hook line and sinker for this unending ruse
that is what i will dispute as long as i have my pen in use
i know followed the fishing (phishing) scheme i rippled upon us
but i also said, “p-ss word,” and “secure” if you listened to the construct
that’s a triple entendre for the fickle and nonchalant
plus a little hip-hop when it isn’t unconscious
that’s why i comment hip-hop and my car have much in common
both are loud vehicles that whittle us beyond all of this nonsense
so long as hip-hop dismisses its conscience with all of its distorted whims
i will be here to say, “hip-hop you must be born again”
