so my name is kid fonque
i run a record label here in south africa
called stay true sounds
i’ve opened up a sister label
called sty tru bts
and i get a lot of music sent to me a lot of the time
there was this one kid, in particular, his name is zito mowa

he already had the music up on bandcamp
he was doing things properly the independent way
but he kept tapping my shoulder
kept tapping my shoulder

er, it got to a point where i couldn’t ignore this kid
because his music was actually so good
and so influenced by that kind like sample*based house
er, and boom*bap, sort of stuff that’s happening in germany
and i licensed the first track from him, morena graef, what a jam

and we’ve actually grown to become friends
and in our journey, you know
i’ve released two eps with this kid zito mowa
and opened a lot of south african people’s ears to the talent
that is zito

and i know he does things very differently
and produces a very different style
to what most south african producers are used to
and that’s what i love about him
